Retreat into nature on this four-day Wayanad tour through the forests and hills of northern Kerala. From the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary — part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve — to the prehistoric Edakkal Caves, the serene Kuruva Island river delta and the vast Banasura Sagar Dam, Wayanad rewards travellers who love the outdoors.

Itinerary

Day 01 — Calicut Arrival & drive to Wayanad

On arrival at Kozhikode (Calicut), meet our representative and transfer to Wayanad (approx. 90 km / 3 hrs), stopping en route at the Ghat Road View Point, Pookot Lake and Soochipara Waterfalls. Check in to your resort and relax for the rest of the day. Overnight in Wayanad.

Day 02 — Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary & Edakkal Caves

After breakfast, set out for a full day covering the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary — part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve and a declared Project Elephant site rich in biodiversity — and the prehistoric Edakkal Caves with their ancient rock carvings. Overnight in Wayanad.

Day 03 — Kuruva Island & Banasura Sagar Dam

After breakfast, visit Kuruva Island, a 950-acre uninhabited river delta of dense evergreen forest on the Kabini, home to rare birds, orchids and herbs. Continue to the Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earthen dam in India and second largest in Asia. Overnight in Wayanad.

Day 04 — Departure from Calicut

After breakfast, check out and drive to Kozhikode Airport for your onward departure. Your Wayanad nature tour concludes.

Which airport should I fly into for Wayanad?

Kozhikode (Calicut) International Airport is the nearest, about 90 km from Wayanad — a scenic three-hour drive up the Ghat road. We can advise on the best flights on request.

Is the Muthanga safari guaranteed?

Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary operates limited daily entry and its own safari timings, and can close for management or seasonal reasons. We cannot guarantee wildlife sightings, but our team plans the visit to give you the best chance.

What meals are included?

This package includes daily breakfast only, leaving your days free to try Wayanad’s local restaurants and resort dining. Half-board can be arranged on request.

Is this a strenuous itinerary?

No. The pace is relaxed, though the Edakkal Caves involve a moderate uphill walk. Most sights are easy for families and older travellers.
